Wiring a power socket?

Hi does anyone know how to wire a power socket in to the ignition circuit, so it will only work when the ignition is on??

Easiest way is to use a relay switched from the lighting circuit. On a pointy it'll come on automatically and on a curvy it'll come on as long as you've got your lights on. If you're a curvy rider who rides with lights off you'll need to find an alternate supply to switch the relay.

There is a large black box under the seat with all sorts of wires going into it. There are a few spare switched spares, orange wire IIRC. Get a thin connector, slot it into one of the spares for the +ve, via a fuse to the socket. -ve from battery. My TomTom is wired like that, as are the hot grips.

thanks guys thats a great help just need to get all the power sorted b4 i head to europe on the sv. If anyone has done a road trip on the sv k2 any tips or preferable luggage or accessories??

I did this by cutting and splicing into the side lights . they are only on with the ignition and only require removing the little triangle cover . this also gives the option of mounting the socket anywhere in the cockpit . if you decide to remove it later then a clock surround with in-fills is a inexpensive to replace .

Why do you only want it on with ignition? if it's not a high draw I like to be able to charge my gps when the bike's not running for example.
HEATED GRIPS WOULD BE A GOOD EXAMPLE OF USING IGNITIO ONLY THOUGH soory excuse caps but i'm not retyping

well it wasnt just for gps i wanted to attach a battery charger for comms sets into the bike so that i can charge a second battery whilst riding. Im not sure how large a drain on the battery that would be if it were left standing for any length of time.
