Rear shock upgrade
Hi guys and gals, I was just wondering if there is any feedback on the following rear shocks I've been looking at.
I'm quite a heavy lad so i need my shock setting up to about 18Stone. I'm not too bothered about cost but i just want to make sure the shock i do buy is suitable for me. The two im looking at are in the links below, they are for a 2000 curvy. https://www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/catal...?partno=M63056 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-SV6...25.m3641.l6368 I don't really know much about shocks but what i can tell is mine has deteriorated a lot in the last few months. Thanks In Advance Connor |

Re: Rear shock upgrade
Or what other shocks from different bikes are a straight swap?

Re: Rear shock upgrade
I fitted a Kawasaki ZX6R shock from a 2003/2004(B1?)model.Had to cut a bit out of the battery box floor and raise the battery a bit.Needed the Kwak lower mounting bolt as the OE one screws into the shock directly.
It worked well for me.(14 stone plus in those days)

Re: Rear shock upgrade
I've got a Hargon, which is a significant improvement on the stock shock.
With Hargon being a british company they could fit a spring to match your weight. Not sure if the other ebay company could do that? Im a puny 11st, so the standard spring is fine for me.

Re: Rear shock upgrade
Okay i seen the zx6r shock but i don't really want to end up cutting bits of the bike apart, if it was for racing i would, but the spray off the roads and all that id rather leave the under tray in tact.
Yeah I was thinking the Hagon, the ebay one does state that they will set it up to your weight and that. i also seen a nitron last night for about £440 |

Re: Rear shock upgrade
Nitron is nice and is better than the Hargon by a long chalk. It'll be set up for your weight.
If your budget doesn't stretech to the Nitron, then the Ebay one seems a better bet if they set it up for your weight in the first place.

Re: Rear shock upgrade
They all give the option to set it up for my weight by the looks of it, im assuming nitro is one of better shocks i could put in, seems crazy putting one part in and it being half what i paid for the bike hahaha

Re: Rear shock upgrade
if you buy a Nitron then if you change bike you can send it back to nitron to have it configured for the new bike. Nitron is a British company. your nitron will still get more than half of what you paid for it if you decide to sell it later.
word of warning.. changing out the rear shock shows up the front end for what it is, really bad pogo sticks. if you do decide on Nitron make sure you get the shock configured for road use and not track. tell them your weight in your birthday suit. the big question is.. how long do you plan on keeping the SV? no point in pumping cash into something your going to sell in 6 months. the SV is a completely different bike once fed with decent bouncy bits. |

Re: Rear shock upgrade
If I could throw another one into the mix ...
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ighlight=shock I installed this last year and have been very happy with it so far. It's a proper gas shock and was delivered all set up for my weight and style of riding. A bit more than a Hagon/YSS but not as much as a Nitron. It's worth giving the guy a call if you have any questions. He's very helpful and will be able to tell you if it can be reconfigured for another bike. What Bibio says about how long you intend to keep the bike is also well worth considering. I kept the original shock so I can I can reinstall it and sell the Shock Factory separately if I ever come to sell the bike. |
