i'm gueesing he rear ended a car and the wheel destroyed itself.

Bloke on LB, you'll be glad to know he was walking wounded.
Sounds like after clipping a car he emergency braked with tank slapper into railings.
He is unsure if wheel collapsed before impact as a result of braking/tank slapper.
Apparently the wheel was previously repaired (by a reputable company)
