Default Valve clearances - K3.

Today I checked my k3's valve clearances. The front cylinder was all spot on. The rear however wasn't. The smallest feeler I had is 0.05mm. Which wouldn't go under any of the inlet or exhaust cams.

Before I go changing shims to suit, is it normal to have all four be so far out? On one cylinder? Or am I overlooking something else important...

The current shims are 1.8mm an 1.7mm. If the 1.7's aren't worn I plan to swap them to the other side to give at least the required 0.1mm gap. Then put 1.50's in place of the 1.7's to gap them appropriately.

I should also mention that this bike is only used for racing and is the first time I have personally checked the clearances.

If anyone can shed any light on the subject that would be great. Thanks.

Has anyone got any pointers on indicators of mal-adjusted valves? I've never checked mine but currently everything is running fine. Do you get common symptoms of gap issues?

How much of a pain is it to check them? I understand adjusting is a lot trickier than checking but just looking for a little guidance.

Can't answer your question but watching with interest.
Mine are due (14K) but I'd rather wait for the next service.

I'd recommend checking them, I've seen them be out on bikes ridden like poofters and seen them all in spec on ones that get zero sympathy.

does 5k miles really make that much of a big difference? & my bikes fine on fuel and no silly noises coming from engine area... just the exhaust

So manual makes it all sound dead easy (K3 SV1000) but typically what's going to be seized, jammed, unreachable etc.
