Ideally, they should purchase the Skill for Life package, join a group and start preparing for their IAM test. However, if they find that idea a bit daunting for now, then why not suggest they undertake RideCheck, from which they will learn what it would take to bring them up to IAM Test standard and grant them Associate status.
RideCheck costs £30, which is fully refundable against the IAM Skill for Life package for the first 30 days. If you wait more than 30 days, the refund drops to £15.

If I understand Ride Check correctly, because it gives you associate status, you could have as many observed rides as you need, it just means you can't take the test. Not that i recommend this - but for the seriously cash strapped...an option.

It's sad that it's going up that much. The £100 threshold will probably put a lot of people off. My missus got me in on the Valentine's day offer - £10 off the normal price of £85. Just waiting to take my fist assessed ride and doing my 'homework' with advanced riding skills book.

TBH it doesn't seem to be telling me to do a lot that I don't already do, but no doubt the observer will say otherwise

I purchased a Skills for Life pack on Monday, glad I did now after reading this! That's another £20ish towards an exhaust.

Go ROSPA!!! Got my test soon hoping to get Gold because my dad got Silver and i'll never let that go if i get gold before him haha lol!

I really think its worth it, after passing i dont think my bike control had improved at all but my risk awareness and assement is far better. The thing that really stuck with me is the rear observations, which I got the feeling were really about looking for police, something that I now do all the time. Also the message has finally sunk in after 5 years that attacking every road at 100mph is not the way foward.
