Default Anyone keep tropical fish?

Got a load of guppies that are surplus to requirement. If you have a tropical tank and want some guppies let me know and I'll bring a few along on Wednesday. And before anyone starts getting smart, no, they are far too small to eat. They are between 0 and 3 months old. They'll be fine in a bag for a couple of hours but if you're turnng up on a bike you'll need a rucsack as they tend to make rubbish pillions.

Do they need to go in a tropical tank Mark? Or can they make it in a normal fish tank?? My son has a fantail and a couple of other small tropical fish - but the tank isnt heated.

Pretty sure they need a heated tank. Unless you have a very warm house and the water is over 20degrees. Or a heater is about £10 but then it depends if your other fish can cope with a warmer tank.

Guppies are a tropical fish and they will need a heater.

They need 20 degrees. If a room is maintained at 20 degrees or above they survive without a heater (eg, in Thailand they live in people's water features to keep mosquitos down), but typically in this country they need a heater/thermostat. However this is about £10 and dead easy.

I have a heater in the cupboard as I was going to get some more tropical fish once the Fantail passed on. I just checked though and it should be ok up to 23c - so yes please I will have a few (max 5 if you have loads).

No probs. Let me know once you've got it set up and the temperature stabilised.

Buy some african chiclids, and your over-reproducing guppie problems are fixed!

I've moved onto Marine fish and Coral, but I started with Guppies a long time ago.
