Default How to fit Chain & Sprocket

I am ordering a chain a sprocket set for my bike.

Does the chain chain come closed?

Is there any way to remove the pin to split the chain then put it back on without a special tool?

What is the best way to do it?

You can buy an endless chain, or one the comes with a split link. The endless one, you have to remove the swing arm. The split link you will need to purchase/borrow a chain riviter/Tool

Remember to undo the fornt sprocket before you cut the chain. Best way is to use a breaker bar, and a serious block of wood through the rear wheel under the swing arm to stop the wheel rotating. You will need (i think) a 32mm socket for the front nut. Then when the nut is off, get an angle grinder grind off the old chain. You only have to gring the rivets off one of the links, remove link plate, un latch chain.

Thats the basics. Personaly i think its just as easy to pay the extra and get it done by somone. You get a warranty and all that. If you want to change your sprockets for tarty ones, then theres nothing stoping you at the time. Just buy them and take them along with you.

The bottom line is you need a chain tool, or have to remove the swing arm.

that chain will not come joined, you'll have to join it... it is possable to join it using a pair of pliers and two hammers (one to hammer and one to hold behind the chain....

I would only use this method if you know what your doing though, either that or buy a chain tool...

why not pop the bike on the stand (my stand ) and remove the rear wheel
you're going to have to adjust the tension anyway, so why not go the whole hog & remove it - sounds easier to me
