is it correct oil?

Hi!
I have bought oil for my SV650S to change it in spring. The oil is Klotz 10W/40 Synthetic Engine Lubricant. Looks like it is what I need. The only thing that makes me suspiciouse is the color of the oil. The color is red. Is it any difference in oil because of the color? Is it right oil? Is it good oil?

I have rided motorcycle where I need to put oil inside the gas tank. I have no idea of how to do it here.

Engine's where the oil is in the gas tank are 2 strokes, they burn their oil along with the fuel.

The SV is a 4 stroke engine, which means its oil is in the sump at the bottom of the engine.

You open a drain plug underneath the engine, let the old stuff drain, then add new through the cap on the left hand side casing.
You'll need 2.3 liters of oil.

No it's fine Klotz 10W/40 is fully synthetic bike racing oil, if anything it's to good and could be argued you don't need anything better than semi- synthentic, but it won't do any harm.

Umm, point of order, sir. The filler cap is on the right engine cover, not the left.

Well that would depend on if he rides his bike the right way round now wouldn't it.

He'd have been at the pop again if he did that, and I can't condone drink driving.

SF and SG are indications of the oil quality, as defined by API (American Petroleum Institute). The S stands for Spark ignition (petrol engine). There are 'C' specifications for Compression ignition (diesel). Somewhere on the can will be a list of specifications that the oil meets.

The F and G are the quality level. Each time the spec is revised and improved it goes up a letter, so SG is a more recent and higher performance spec than SF, but they are both old specs. The latest is SM. If the second letter on your can is higher than G it will be fine as the later specs cover the requirements of the earlier ones.
