Default Unbalanced Fueling in the carbs.

After going round Jambos last night and him giving me some of his time, illumination, tools and tea I have sorted a number of things. The throttle is like a greased ferret when I turn it now, so much so that I forgot how it was meant to be. So thanks to the pressure cable oiler for that. We have gone round the bike and checked all the earth and positive cabling on the bike to the battery, frame earth and coils, all seem good. Spark plugs where cleaned and gapped by Jambo but they where in a reasonable condition to start with. Then the carbs where inspected... which is where the problem lies, now the balance seems fine with only a small difference.

The main problem seems to be the jets, namely that on the front jet on the slider at idle you can clearly see fuel being 'jetted' out. Where as on the rear it is only viewable when the throttle is open, both increase with throttle though. I will post a pic of the jet in question if people are not sure but we suspected it as the source of my bad running problem, namely low revs at startup even with the choke on till it gets warm. High speed power lose when throttle is opened fully above 6k, plus 'some' problem with the engine almost choking off if I open the throttle to quick from a start with out reving first.

Oh and thanks again Jambo...

Worth a look see what colour the plugs are when running at idle.

Are they balancing normally or doing wierd stuff?

I'd be thinking flush the carbs out, as something being clogged could well cause this.

Check the float needles and the float heights/fuel level.

Plugs have been checked as has the balancing, which was only very slightly out. Might well be a blockage.

Pardon... I think that might be a stare at the manual job for a few hours.

Sarj has rather kindly offered me some carbs to have a fiddle with, before I screw up my own. Are there any tricks and tools that maybe I need or recomend?

Yep, be VERY gentle with anything brass Those little buggers break with almost no effort. If you decide to remove anything like jets or screw adjusters count how many turns you had to remove them with and write it down! can save you a lot of guess work and time when you re-assemble.

And.....try to use an air line rather than poke anything down the jet holes. Even very gentle cleaning can alter the bore size enough to change the fuelling.

Yes, but at the moment, the bike runs... I'm sure I can make it worse.

If the spare set are working, sub them in and see if the bike runs well, if it does it's worth looking at yours, if not then keep looking for the fault.
