Last night on the way home I pulled up behind one of those Smart cars. It was smothered in Transport for London logos and to top it off on the roof was, what looked like, a remote camera. Sure enough on the side of the car was a 'speed camera' decal.

Just found the answer myself on the tfl website. They are used for enforcing the Red Route network and on the look out for illegal parking
"The car is equipped with the latest digital technology, including Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, enhanced Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and DVD recording." First time I've seen one is all. Sorry for taking up your valuable time. |

yep and the most times there used for is outside schools stoping the mums park up etc etc
