Default "Is your bike for sale?" scam......??

Someone knocked on my door before asking if my bike was for sale and noted that it had never moved.... Its been in the same place for a couple of weks till I pass my test.

Just mentioned it to my flatmate who said a neighbour had been asked the same thing about my bike a fortnight ago.

So now Im paranoid. Guy was a dodgy and blatantly wasnt in the market for buying a bike. Should have challenged him but thought nothing of it at the time.

Sleeping with one eye open tonight. No garage, bike outside in front yard.

What was dodgy enough about him to make you think he wasn't in the market for a bike? That aside, if he thought it never got used and wanted to buy it, sounds like what you'd do, right? If you were going to steal it would you make the owner aware

Although, I am paranoid too, and I would be concerned that anyone had noticed it. I'd be moving it, not leaving it there, it's doubtful you'd stay awake all night?

He was drunk and dishevelled. Plus its always always under a cover so its a bit speculative to knock on someones door to check if a bike he hasnt seen is for sale?

A guy down the road from me had a bike which never moved and I always wanted to knock and find out if he wanted to sell. The only time I would've been likely to knock out of the blue was after a few pints........that said it was a cacky old ER5 and I would've been gutted if I had bought that!

The difference I suppose is I could see the bike as it wasn't covered.

Can you lock the cover to the bike? If so, get some cheap chains and do that. Might deter a theif (but, of course, dosnt stop them getting a knife and cutting the cover away...stalls them a bit though).

Are you allowed to put in a ground anchor?

Brother bought a couple that way when he was a kid. Biggest bargain was a GT380 followed by a £30 Z200 which re-awoke the inner biker in my dad, carried my parents around for a year & ensured my brother was allowed to get himself a 'ped when he hit 16.
