Well as some of you may have read I restricted my bike this weekend, put the carb washers in put the carbs back on struggled the airbox back on and changed the spark plugs while I was at it (swinging the radiator right forward).
Well now when I turn the key there is no power what so ever - the batteries in good condition but the bike's completely lost power no lights on the clock no nothing. Fuses all look okay at a glance so I'm assuming I must have knocked a crap connection or unplugged something and forgotten to put it bike in - does anyone know the most likely suspects to save me some hours of frustration? Cheers Oh and it's a 99' 650x

Tell us everything you did, no matter how small.
Assuming you didn't touch the battery then the most likely thing is the ign switch connector which is just behind the headstock, you could have disturbed it. Otherwise if you removed the battery there is a little connector from the (-) terminal which goes to the wiring loom, easy to disconnect and easy to miss when you put the battery back in. Druid

If no, check the main fuse on the starter solenoid -check both battery terminals are tight - have you checked battery voltage with some volt meters? if not do so and keep them on when you turn ignition on, check for a big voltage drop. If Yes, check the main wiring plug out of the ignition switch, they can furr up, particular attention to the red and orange wires. See how you go on with this for the mo, Let us know. Paul |

Kill switch?
Or more likely you have shorted a live wire while working on the bike causing the main fuse to blow. Its the one on the right side below the rider seat where the red wire from the battery goes into the solonoid type thing.

Cheers for all your replies it'll give me something to go on, I'm going to get back on it tonight. I didn't remove the battery I just removed the tank>airbox>carbs & radiator and put them back on. I have a horrible feeling I wrecked some wiring while struggling with the radiator or airbox although I didn't notice anything. I'm hoping it's just a fuse, will let you all know how I get on.

Unless a connection was dodgy anyway you have to really rag at stuff to break wires so you should not have much to worry about. My guess is that its going to be that Ign Connector at the front as mine has been cutting out on me while riding (not fun on the motorway) so as soon as I get home im going to check this.

hope u manage to sort it dave, i also was working on carbs this weekend,,,,the only wires i can remember was to the right of the rear carb (looking as if sat on the bike) there was one of those clip connecters (sorry im carp at knowing what things are called)with a few wires going into it, which id imagine u had to disconnect as i did before you could lift the carbs up and round.... did you connect this back up?
just an idea...i dont even know what these wires are for to be honest so i may be way off line.... |
