when the bikes been standing on its stands waiting for good weather i go out ev now and again to start her and admire her sexy good looks, sometimes the oil light stays on and it doesnt go off? if i turn the ignition off and start her again then it goes out? any ideas or is the oil just simply draining to the sump? the oil level looks quite low but it was dealer serviced 7 months ago? is it due for a change already? its only done about 2k on that oil.

If the bike's on its stand & the oil pickup is on the right hand side, it'll be picking up & running on froth - not a brilliant lubricant!
Probably due for an oil change anyway. |

Oil light stays on sometimes? Level looks low?
Alarm bells? Seriously fella, I wouldn't crank it until you've at least sorted the levels out when cold. Once that's sorted, if you still get the light staying on sometimes (and you're certain there's enough oil in), start looking at a dodgy pressure sensor/wiring. |

Are you checking it whilst its on the paddock stand, if so that may be why.
Drop it off the stands and check it then.

i dropped it off the stands and its just above the low marker, i have no reason to be concerned about that thats why u have a max and a min, just strange that it only happens wen stood? a reset of the ignition turns it off.

The oil light is an 'Oil pressure warning light'. If it stays on or comes on when the engine is running you should stop the engine straight away or you're risking starving bearings of vital lubrication. Oil generally becomes thinner as it get older and more contaminated. This combined with the low oil level is probably causing your low oil pressure. If I were you I'd do an oil change and make sure it's kept topped up to the max. mark.

Why would you be starting it up every now and again? You like contaminating oil for no reason?
As for main dealers looking after your oil level for you, I won't even bother to comment except for RTFM and you should know better.
