Default EBay/Paypal Question

Sold my phone on EBay during the week and had the following email from Paypal today:

Just had this email

You've received a payment, detailed below. We've placed a temporary hold on the funds for this transaction.

eBay and PayPal are working together to make it safer than ever to buy on eBay. One of the boldest steps is to identify transactions that pose the greatest risk of fraud and holding the payments from sellers for a period of time to help ensure that the transactions go smoothly.

We'll release the payment for the eBay item if either of the following occurs:

* The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
* It's been 21 days since the payment date and you haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held

I logged into my Paypal account and it says the payment is On Hold until I post it & receive feedback etc etc. Has anyone else had this???

yep had this when I sold my mp3 player. Basically its in limbo until the other person leaves feedback. I had to call paypal up to let them know before funds appeared. Happended straight away after the call. They said it was for some items that are subject to high amounts of fraud.

Just looked at the Paypal website and found this:

  • You have been on eBay less than six months and sell an item above £50
  • You have a feedback score of less than 98% and sell an item above £50
  • More than 5% of your transactions result in dissatisfied buyers*
  • You have an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of 4.5 or less
  • You have received less than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings
  • You are listing your item in a higher-risk category which include gift certificates, video games, mobile phones, computers, and consumer electronics
Looks like I'll just have to send the phone and hope all goes OK! Don't really like it that the seller could end up with the phone and start playing silly buggers!!!

Ebay's gone nuts for buyer protection whilst then often shafting sellers and placing unreasonable demands on them.

Selling high value items on ebay is a high risk now. Paypal chergebacks are very high when it come to selling things like phones. It really is scammers paradise thats why I no longer us it.
Whats the buyers feedback like? Give us a link and we'll take a look at the risk.
