Faulty Gearbox

I have a loud whining noise coming from my K7 when in fifth gear. Anyone heard of the SV650 gearbox having problems with the gearbox? All other gears are ok.

my bike (k9)slipped out of 2nd gear 2 or 3 times lately so i took it to stevejordans in leatherhead (where i brought the bike from) and one of the mechanics took it for a test ride (i think he races for/with them) and he said they use the gearboxes on their race bikes and they rarely, if ever, fail. So he just adjusted the clutch freeplay and sent me on my way which i was ok with.

so im not sure but someone with a bit more mechanical know how will be along to diagnose the problem.

Problems are very rare, usual "gearbox" trouble is the gear lever siezing up...

I'd drop the oil, check for swarf. If swarf is found then strip it and investigate.

I have yet to see a gearbox failure on the SV650 even on those we race.

What mileage are you on?. Id check the condition of the front sprocket as a matter of course first.

Check you chain tension.
