If you do nothing else this weekend, please go out & check your linings.
Have just done a complete rear strip & rebuild on the caliper, there was NO lining left, infact on one pad I was eating ![]() We all have a long weekend, please go check yours before its to late. ![]() |

Once a week you should check your chain, tyres, pads, oil, coolant, clutch and brake feel, lights etc.
If everyone did this we'd have less posts about blown engines, chains that "suddenly snapped" and brake pads that have to be bought TODAY. Jambo

Not meaning to sound like a bass tard but don't you check this stuff when servicing the bike. You should have known that they were on their way out and put them on the pre-ride checklist along with... Oh never mind.

Jambo, at least three of those items belong on the daily checklist.

OK yea I know guilty as charged, kick a bloke when he's down why don't ya.
Not being an experienced bod, i had looked but thick as I am had not realised what I was looking at was the backing plate & not the pad itself. If you know what you are looking at its OK, I have learnt a leason. Lets hope everyone else outhere is an expert. ![]() |

Hmmm... okay, live and learn. I was trying not to give you a kicking btw. Hopefully you won't be up for a new disk, but either way I reckon that you won't be doing that again.
Cheers ![]() |

They certainly aren't.
First service of my Yamaha SR 125showed up a total lack of front pads, I'd been driving like that for a while. Thankfully I survived those early mistakes and nowadays I'm doing better. My aim wasn't to criticise, more to broaden the spread of the post from encoraging people to check one thing now, to reminding people to check the bike regularly. Jambo

It's possibly the usual problem with the Suzuki lower rear brake caliper. It will almost certainly need a jolly good clean and maybe new seals too, otherwise you'll trash your new pads and possibly warp the disc as well.

Yep was a bit cacked up, took it off split it & did the whole lot.
Should now be perfick! Have taken it down the road to try them out & everything seems to be OK. Next will be the front, but looking ( with more experienced eyes ) pads have about 3mm-4mm left so, next week is derbyshire rideout, then its MOT day, will do them after that. By then it will be time for another oil & filters change, don't this sort of thing ever stop! |
