Default Speedo not working

Ok went out for a ride this afternoon and all was fine then i notice the speedo needle dropping down to zero for a few seconds then its ok again. This happened about half a dozen times before it eventually stopped working for good. The rest of the instruments are fine, so before I start looking into this am i right in thinking the first checks to do are the wiring connections from rotor and speedo. Is there anything else that could cause this apart from wiring or the speed rotor. I'm inclined to think its a dodgy connection as it was intermitent first.

Its probably a mashed speedo rotor. Remove your front wheel and catch all the little bits that fall out.

Mashed speedo rotor I guess too. Even if they are mashed, the bits inside can still cause it to turn for a bit whilst it is getting more mashed, so it will manifest as an intermittent fault for a while. Search the forum for more threads on speedo rotor checks and swaps if you need more info.

I would also say its the speedo rotor, they aren't particularly stong and do break easy.

...and superglue them back on.

I'll be on my 3rd when I run out of glue.
