I think this is an earthing issue, but has anyone got any pointer on where the most likely spot is? Where its earthing out? Could it be in the indicator unit itself?

Just ripped the bike apart (nice and oily) and found that its not the loom but the rear brake switch that responsible for the earthing out.when disconnected it works as normal. Will soak in WD40 or replace.

Right, its still broken.
Hazards on, brake light flashes, along with number plate light Indicator on, brake light flashes along with number plate light Brake light lights up solid, on both front lever and rear pedel/lever Even when i disconnect the rear brake switch and the front brake switch at least the top 3/4 brake LEDS flash. Only flash a little when the indi is used but more so when the hazards are engaged. I've ripped the bike to pieces to try an find chaffed wires but cant find the fault. Spent two hours today screwing about. Took the whole back end fairing off to mess with the cables up the sides, tank up, airbox off, obviously the seats off. Played with everything and cant manage to fix it, not even for a few seconds. All wires and looms have been played with so i think it might be a fault with a component. I've been trying with the engine running also and still happens. Do the rear brake light units fail?? Does the relay near the fuse box ever fail? I assume it has a the flasher unit in there, among other things. Where are all the earth points on the engine/Frame? Could it be a low battery, although this behavior still happens when i run the engine at 2-3k rpm Please help me, before i pour fuel over it and burn it to ****. Sounds like bad earth
There are no earths to frame, all in loom.

It does sound like a duff earth, but it's somewhere back in the loom, possibly a corroded connector on the earth block.
Simplest test is to run a separate wire from the -ve battery terminal to an earth on the light cluster. . |

Where is the earth block you mention? Is it one of the plugs behind the head stock?
Just found this post http://forums.sv650.org/archive/index.php/t-133075.html Suggests the brake light cluster can fail on the k3 and k4's. Its a sealed unit so i'll crack it open to see if i can find a problem before i shell out. may be able to fix it and glue it back together.... |

My sisters Fiat had this problem, the rear lights were all over the shop exactly as you are describing and it failed its MOT because of it.
In the end I figured out it was a problem with the connectors plugs themselves. Somehow the connector with the pins in it had partially melted internally although it was very hard to notice a difference. I cut the connectors off the loom and rewired some I got from a scrap yard and the problem was solved.
