Default Tyre Drop Off

Just wondering but how much are tyre performances likely to drop on an average TD tyre?

i ask as i notice a lot of racers selling sticky rubber that has only been through a few heat cycles...

What kind of performance gap is there likely to be between a TD tyre thats been through a dozen or so aggressive heat cycles (plenty of tread still though) and a fresh touring tyre for example?

Any light that can be shed on the matter would be much appreciated.

Default Re: Tyre Drop Off

A pure race tyre (IE that has a designated compound) can drop off within 10 laps if your seeking lap records. My SC0 rears on the supersport bike would be gone enough to drop my laptimes after 7-10 laps dependant on circuit and temperature.

A medium compound tyre (SC2 on Pirelli) would generally last between 2 x 12 lap races and 4-6 12 lap races dependant on rider pace.

At the end of the day it varies dependant on compound, how well the bike was setup, whether tyre warmers had been used constantly between use or turned off between use allowing the tyre to cool and rider pace.

IMHO if your of a reasonable pace and have tyre warmers then the track tyre if in good condition will potentially offer better performance than a touring type tyre. If your just starting out on trackdays then the touring tyre is more than capable.
