Autocom

Has anyone fitted one to an SV before, and if so is there a prefered way of doing it. I have various old threads that mention connecting it to the optimate connection point, which I have on my bike.

I am thinking of getting the small compact one, but get the wire to hard wire it in.

Any thoughts or suggestions

Hard wired. If I remember correctly I wired mine into my tail lights or numberplate light. Basically somewhere where it only gets power when ignitions on was my way of thinking.

This is essentially a hard wired way of doing it and how I had mine fitted to the older VFR. If space is at a premium under your seat, this is a good idea, as you can only install the unit when you want to use it, but it is bike powered (hard wired) rather than relying on batteries. Otherwise Autocom themselves advise hard wiring to the foot brake light switch live feed, as this is a switched live and easy to get to. There is good guidance on this on their website, with a few PDF guides.

Sorry to do a bit of thread hijacking.

But I have seen mention of hooking things into number plate light before. What is the best way of doing this? Is it as simple as cut the cable and add a couple of block connectors or try and "trap" the cable between the plastic plugs?

Looking to hard wire an Inforad if it helps.

Personally I would solder the cable in and heatshrink it, but if your not confident the scotch clips are designed to cut into the cable but not cut it and allows a 'tee' off.

Dont use scotch locks. If your not comfortable soldering find someone who is.

I always solder, but when I was a youngster doing wiring, I used a shed load of these things doing stuff for mates and never had a single failure, so they ain't that bad tbh.
