Quick question, grease on caliper pins?

Whats the best grease to use on caliper sliding pins?, i thought i had some but not bought any for years.
Is it the red silicone grease?
I know copper slip is a no-no on these as its not smooth.

Im popping over to halfrauds in a mo so it ideally something i can get from there.

I've used copperslip on the pad pins for years without a problem but I'd guess the rrg would be ok to.

I always thought copperslip was the one to use, it doesnt dry out. Always used it myself on bikes and cars for brakes no problem.

In fact, if you go to halfrauds, you'll find the copperslip along with the brake parts

Nope it's only for use on the back of the pads to stop squeal, it's apparently bad for the rubber seals, can make them expand.
Garages use a red silicone grease on the pins I'm sure but wanted to check with the more experienced on here.

Fecking halfrauds didn't have any anyway, robbing c**ts want £22 for their semi 10w40 now, £5 more than the equilivant motorcar one. Is it really so different?? I can't believe it is.

They want £4 for a tiny plastic funnel they are about 50 pence in any other shop.

I'm not gonna use them anymore, they are taking the pi55.

I think there might be confusion here. Copper slip is good for the pins that hold the brake pads in place and stops them seizing in place.

It's no good for the pins the caliper body slides on if you've got sliding calipers like on the SV. It hardens and causes the rubber boots to swell. I think it's those pins that SO is looking to grease. In which case, yes, you need RRG or Silicone Grease - neither of which you'll get in Halfords. I tend to buy that stuff online.

Yep sorry, I was confused too, I was thinking when I change pads, not strip down calipers.

Sorry i may have not explained myself very well, having never changed the pads on my DRZ before i was gonna grease the sliding pins as well while im at it (assuming they are as Tam desribed), the pad pins i would use copper slip as you all have said.

For the sliding pins, the ones with rubber booties and which let the caliper move relative to the fork leg, I usually use Wurth Silicone grease. Last lot I got online from here , note that it's free p&p, cheaper than anywhere I found on fleabay etc. The Suzuki w/shop manual recommends silicone grease.

It's useful stuff to have for any other metal/plastic/rubber lube jobbies too, I don't use it on regular metal/metal places so a tin lasts me a long time.

The company that does wd40 also make different sprays for different applications, so got a can of silicone grease to try.
The caliper sliding pins are minute, there is hardly any movement in them in the design so I dont think there will be a problem.
The caliper itself was in excellent condition, especially considering the harsh conditions it's expected to perform in off road.
