Good morning.

First check all the connections on the battery, & the solenoid. It sounds like you have a loose one.

Cheers.

Have you charged your battery & tried to start it?
Common problem with Curvies is the regulator rectifier. I rode 15 miles on a fresh battery once & when I got home, stopped the engine, when I came back to it half an hour later, it was dead.

The fizzing sound is the clue. Investigate the source of the noise first. Its most likely a bad connection where the fizz is coming from unless its the relay operating and releasing. Check out all the large wires from the battery to the start relay and then to the starter. Obviously the earth connection to the battery should also be checked out.

If its the relay itself "fizzing" you can get this from a low/bad battery or bad start button (less likely). The starter takes a high current so a bad or dirty connection can reduce the current flowing so its important that the connections are clean and tight. If the battery is faulty or low, when you press the button the voltage falls and the relay drops out, then because the load has now gone the voltage increases and you go through the cycle again, this causes a rattly noise. Exceptionally a bad starter motor can short out causing too high a current try to flow, giving similar symptoms.

thanks everybody for your replys i've since been messing with it and can get the starter to turn buy earthing a power pack and putting the live direct to the starter, so it suggests to me that the starter relay may be f***edwill try again tomorrow when i'ved charged the battery.

The battery has a torturous path to flow through, to operate the start relay It comes from the ignition, kill switch, then to the start switch, then the clutch switch before ending up at the relay on the yellow/green wire. Though low current it will still need to have clean contacts and connections. If this wiring is in doubt put a connection from the positive side of the battery to the yellow/green wire (you don,t need to switch on the ignition) the starter should operate. Use a fused wire of course. Alternatively, you could just bridge the smaller red wire of the relay and the yellow/green as this red wire is already fused. At least it will enable you to determine if its the relay or the wiring, though of course you need to ensure the earth wire to the relay is good. Best of luck, Dave.
