chain/ rear wheel noise?

ok noticed the other day that the chain was making a little noise when rolling upto traffic lights. got it cleaned tonight and noticed that the rear wheel is clicking/pinging as its rotated. obviously im not going to ride it till i can sus out what it is (im guessing wheel out) but any ideas?

Take the chain off the sprocket and see if the noise remains.
If yes then either remove the pads or at least retract the pistons so the pads aren't dragging on the disc.

Those two might help point you in the right direction - hopefully.

I had a similar experience with a clicking sound coming from the rear wheel which turned out to be a misalignment of the wheel (never trust the swing arm markings) causing the rear sprocket to catch the chain while I was sitting on it. It was a simple case of loosing up the nut and realigning the wheel.

Do you have scotoiler fitted, as mine got tangled with the sprocket once and made a ticking noise

right well had a look tonight and if you take the chain off then its silent. thus not the caliper or bearings. putting the chain on you get the clicking sound almost as if its sticking (so i was thinking alignment) checked that using the turns out from fully in method and its spot on within a flat.

back together and if the chain is tight then no noise! mid limit (limit is 25-35mm so 30mm slack) and its pinging. also only seems to happen then when the axel bolt is tight (doesnt do it when slack)

so not a bloody clue. everything else seems ok. im going for a run tomorrow so i guess ill see if it beds in ish type thing?

btw you cant hear it over the engine only on the stand with the wheel rotated by hand.

this is the clicking noise i was talking about.
Now i took the chain off and had a good look and poke, re torqued everyhting and it was still there. Went for a ride (circa 100 miles approx) and it got worse. parked it up and came back to it the next day. Next day it wasnt half as bad.
Stripped everything down and took a look at the crush drive rubbers. Is there a way to tell they are knackered?

i also noticed that there appeared to be a scuff on the sprocket carrier edge. Im wonderign if its got canted over during hard acceleration on the track dy or something? Only thing is its on bearings so not sure how that would have been able to happen.

So bolted it all back together and it seems to run a little smoother but its still a noisy chain (although im guessing thats a quality issue)

so im still stuck as to what it might be. Runs ok now though but i would like to get to the bottom of it. A suggestion was that the rear sprocket had become eccentric on the studs but im not 100% convinced about that.

Any thoughts on this?

If cush drive is knackered there will be rotational play between drive and wheel.

Is alignment correct when axle is tightened? You got 2 straight edges?

Chains can sometimes click a bit if teeth are a bit hooked and worn, or if out of line, or too tight. I take it slack is still correct when torqued up?

it clicked more with a chain slack. with 25mm of play it clicks less! for some reason.

alignment done several times using the string and 2 heavy objects method. within the thickness of string. chain and sprockets have 1500 miles on them.

no rotational play. its quite a tight fit as well. there was some silvery residue around that centre hub though. I thought it ws metal shavings at first but it could be paint.

Have a look at the other ( inner ? ) side of thr rear sprocket. Is it just as scabby?
Also: is the front sprocket tight?
