Default Crashed My Curvy

Hello I'm new here , have been tempted to join for a while and today I think suggested to do just that.

My 2001 Curvy Sv is my world I got her after passing only beginning January. I have ridden this bike in only harshe conditions , commuting in south wales without a hitch so far.

I finished my casino shift at 3am , went for a little ride and started heading back through some twistie narrow roads at around 40mph, relaxing and destressing from the night shift. Hit a dodgy patch of road sending the bike wide hedgebound and me over the handlebars.

GUTTED!

Surprisingly I managed to get the bike up and start her no problem and get her home. The upper fairing is cracked, the control levers feel out of position and the indicator I payed £45 to get fixed LAST WEEK (after somebody hit it off in a car park) is dangling to its condemnation again.

The guys are bought it from are decent enough mechanics , they charge around £45 per hour.

My real question here is how do I go about the repairs? MOT is due in May, I have very minimal mechanical experience and not alot of tools to hand. What is the cheapest way to get these things sorted?

The mudguard above the front wheel is cracked, it needs replacing.
The head fairing is cracked enough to need replacing I'd assume, is it easier to turn my curvy naked? Or do I need a mechanic to do it?
Could I buy an unpainted head fairing, if so where could I get it sprayed?
I assume that would also need fitting by a mechanic.
Could I adjust the controls myself and is there anything else I need to check over the bike to make sure it's safe.

I must say , I'm rather shaken up as I felt as though my balls were going to come up through my throat, the adrenaline was incredible. But I won't make a habit of it.

Any help would truly be appreciated, I love my bike.

Yours truly ,

Ry

Two options really:

Get the plastics welded, rubbed down and resprayed by someone you trust or who is recommended to you or

Get on eBay and some of the many breakers websites and buy some second hand ones that are in good condition. New ones cost a fortune!

Good luck, hope you are ok?

As some of the others have said, get on eBay and search some breakers yards. Wouldn't worry to much about the colours you can always get them sprayed at a later date. You should be able to do most is not all of it yourself but might be worth having a mechanic check it over once done. You shouldn't need more than a few screwdrivers and a rachet set. I've had all the body work off mine (pointy) at one point or another and it went back on fine. If your not sure get a Haynes manual and it's a great time to get to know your bike a bit better / do some mods.

Congratulations on passing your test and hope it doesn't put you off. Get back on the horse and all.

By the way I'd be happy to lend a hand fixing it if your free on a Wednesday / Thursday sometime. I'm only the other side of the bridge and only charge tea and biscuits.

Good stuff. This is what bike forums like this are all about.

If anyone in Manchester area ever needs a hand give me a shout, I have tools, patience and a penchant for caramel digestives

Hey man, ive had my curvy a year now and I've had a few little spills. I don't know what your budget is, but to be honest, considering you only passed in January it might not be worth paying to replace and respray fairings.
Normally they can be repaired from behind leaving just a crack on the front.

Turning the bike naked is a bit of hassle, but if its what you want do it.

If the levers are not bent then you can probably loosen the mount to the clip on and just twist the mount until its in the right place. If the levers are bent buy cheaper ones from ebay to keep ur costs down. You dont need to spend more than £10 on levers.

Also check ebay for plastics. Depending on the colour of your bike some will come up. It would probably be worth waiting until some of your colour pop up because that will save you the cost of spraying.

I doubt the fairings would need fitting by a mechanic, all you need should need to take off the fairings is some 3-6mm allen keys. You take the bikini off first, then after that you take off the head fairing. To get the bikini fairing off you need to remove the mirrors but not the screen.

Bikes are pretty robust, you have to try quite hard to kill one. Check your brakes are working fine, see if your handle bars are striaght when you ride straight, make sure theres no new shakes or wobbles coming from the front. Normally you will feel if somethings off.

It sounds pretty simple to fix mate, if you fancy a ride to oxford i can sort you out with some stock front indicators.

good luck!

Fairing cracks aren't an MOT failure, and you can replace them yourself, or find some matching electric tape as a temp measure(or two years like I did).....its hardly rocket science, a bit of patience and taking note of where everything goes, its an easy enough jigsaw puzzle, to save coughing 45 quid an hr to someone else, especially when it can all be done with some allen keys and a couple of screwdrivers. Just be careful when removing, as sometimes the bigger dome bolt bracket gives a bit of resistance, sometimes the mirrors can be a bit awkward, depending on which ape did them up!

What do you mean by head fairing.....I'm presuming you have an S, and mean the front 'nose' that holds the headlights?

Crack in a mudguard, might have some bearing on an MOT, but as I've never cracked one, I wouldn't know

Perhaps, the controls have just been pushed round a bit, undo the two bolts a little and twist them back to postition where you find comfortable...see if it works.

AND NO.....its not so easy to turn an S into an N.

I work in a casino so this is my commute , I finish at 3am that's why I ride. I can't afford a car and mum's not too keen on picking me up every few days ! Plus . I LOVE MY BIKES !

I can't believe I left this message a few hours ago and have all these responses already ! Thanks to everyone for your help.

Put simply , my budget is around £200 next payday. That will be all my spare money for the month from my badly payed job! Im going to check the bike over now and give it a clean, try to adjust the controls, cut off the dangling indicator and tape it up. I willa lso check for straightness in the wheels and forks, handlebars etc.

Im assuming the best route from there is to keep an eye out for the fairing part . The actual parts damaged are the front left and right panels of the mudguard. The small piece around the lights is fine.

Can you drive the machine without the front fairing at all in stock condition? What would it look like?

Thanks again everyone for all your help, I may take you up on these offers soon! I have a few biscuits..

Sorry to hear you crashed. At least you're ok though.
I just saw a whole curvy body kit on eBay. In blue. Just search for sv 650 and order by newest listed.
