Default Noob question regarding spark plugs

Hey all,

I'm trying to fit new spark plugs in my 2004 SV650s. I have the Haynes manual and I've been trying to follow it word for word as I'm completely useless at mechanical tasks. It says that when replacing the rubber cap on the plugs I should "make sure the triangular mark points to the exhaust side." Now this isn't a problem for the rear spark plug, but it's physically impossible for me to get the marker to point to the exhaust side on the front spark plug due to the length of the cable.

So how important is this?
Am I missing something? (Is there some other exhaust it's referring to?)

I really don't want to screw anything up as it's my first bike and I've been trying to get it running properly for ages now.

the little triangle points forward on the front plug and backwards on the rear plug.

if the plug cap is not fitting on the front then it has snagged somewhere.

It's the exhaust side of the cylinder not the bike. On the front cylinder, the exhaust comes out the front so you want the arrow pointing forwards.

Thanks for your swift and helpful reply.

I'll have to sort the plugs out tomorrow, and fingers crossed I'll finally have my SV roadworthy.
