Hi, i hope someone on this forum knows something about the cbr 600 fs :P
I am looking to buy a cbr600 fs but im not sure whether to buy one with low mileage (5-10k), or one with a fair bit of miles (20-30k). If i get the one with high miles ill make sure its had its valve clearances done. So which one would run better and why? the low miles or high miles? |

Bit of an odd question.
The better one will be the one that's been looked after... The best bike is one that's done some miles, but been religiously looked after. Good luck finding one. It's my completely unsubstantiated theory that any owner who does this to the point a bike is "better than new" will probably keep it until it dies. Don't confuse this state with a paltry FDSH...

20-30,000 miles is not 'a fair bit', neither would be a better bike to buy based solely on those two theoretical mileages, at that mileage both would have huge amounts of life left in them if they've been looked after anything like right - which is by far a more important factor.
Consider the condition above everything else, if it runs properly until it says 50K+ lots on the clock it's fine, and even then it's probably got more miles left in it that you'll do on it - ever.

well yes the better one will be the one which has been looked after.
I think i didnt address my question properly, i know bikes can get to high miles 70k+ no problem if they have been serviced properly. But a friend of mine told me il4s or more specifically the cbr 600fs doesnt run as great until the 20k mark and its first valve clearance, is this a load a trash? |

I bought a 01 CBR 600FS in January with 20k miles on the clock n good condition. Not heard much about the valve clearances thing but in the reading up I did there was only really two things to look out for - the good old cam chain tensioner rattling/failing and exhaust down pipes rotting.
As it happens the one I got had a full Akra titanium system on it so the exhaust problem was gone but in fact did have a rattly CCT, so I researched how much that would cost to replace to be safe. Part cost 70quid and I replaced it myself in a few hours and I aint no mechanic. Short of that had no issues at all, go for it I dont think you will be disappointed! Well I dont think you will but its personal choice in the end!... |

Thanks for the advice man, theres one with 10k miles which im planning to buy hopefully it all goes well. Can you check the downpipes without taking the fairing off?
btw your bike looks sweet im planning to get the same colour. |

Yeah I reckon its the best colour. Not sure the sport comes in other colours except race rep ones but I am pretty uninformed on that note.
Try and get a look at the pipes from the front behind the front wheel and have a listen to them. Realistically though if they havent been replaced with stainless I would be budgetting to sometime in the future.. |

But that's a tiny tiny thing in grand scheme of things to look at when buying a bike. Only reason you should consider valves is if it's due a service has it had it, cos this can be expensive.

The 16K service can be eye watering expensive if you go to a Honda dealer, from what I remember that's the Cam Chain Tensioner replacement. About 4 years ago it was £400 + bits, so I went to a guy who fixes bikes - £150 all in.
If its been well cared for, ie serviced, shouldn't be any problems with a 20K bike, it is a Honda. I did love my CBR ![]() |

I'm sure there's a guy near Halifax/Leeds that's very reasonable?
