Trying to get Media Streaming working on a new PC, its 64bit windows 7 Home Premium. PS3, phone or other windows 7 PC's can't see the server.

We have 2 other PC's running windows 7 (32 bit Professional) that are working perfectly (PS & phone can stream music and video without a problem).

Problem PC is setup identically to the other 2. As per Linky. All 3 are in the same homegroup and can all share files between each other.

I've tried clearing all the settings & starting again.
Turned windows features (Media player) off and then back on again.
Checked folder permissions and ownership
Repeated above using a different Administrator account.

Anything else I can try?

I'm running it with PS3 Media Server which works fine, I'd just like to get to the bottom of why Media Player won't work on this PC.

You could get a job at CSC

No idea, but if you get it fixed, tell me how you did it. Our Sony Bluray can see the Media Server, my Android phone can see the server but when you try to connect they both claim there isn't a server to connect to. I just turn the music up loud if if I want to hear it in another room now!!

I gave up trying to get mine to work and now use XBMC as the streaming server application rather than Windows. So, can't help you solve the problem, just offering a differnt solution.

Are CSC really that bad? They're bidding to take over my IT dept (or parts of it) at the moment.

depends on the media server and how its connected plus the rights management. its a bit like wireless as in you can see different connections but you cant connect as you don't have the password. some servers need a client list set up some are auto. or it could just be a case of a crap firewall.

Some of their guys are really good, but without fail they have always suggested switching it off and back on :@

Firewall: always investigate connection problems with them switched off. Should have mentioned that. :$

Thanks for the replies, I'll stick to the 3rd party server for now. I suspect it'll just start working after some random windows update.

for streaming to my PS3 I use PS3 Media Server (PMS).

Its a Java app that I run on my Linux box - but have had good success with it on Windows too.

The clever thing is that if the PS3 cant decode the video file because it doesn't have the codecs, PMS can transcode it on the fly.

Yes. The 32 bit ones both work correctly. As far as I can tell all three are setup identically.
