Default Changing sprocket size SV650 (Tyre Question Also)

Hi All

It's time to change the sprocket and chain on the SV

I'm thinking about changing to a smaller sized sprocket than standard to get more time in each gear and possibly increase the acceleration in the midrange?

Has anyone done this?
What Size Sprocket and chain did you use?

Also,

I need to change the tyres
When I bought the bike it was on:
Dunlop Sportmax Sportsmarts

They were quite a big tyre for the size (They were spread wide and just about fit under the rear hugger)

New tyres I bought were:
Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier II

These tyres were smaller (Even though they were the same size on Paper as the Sportsmarts) They were narrower and had more clearance under the rear hugger

I have to say I much prefer the Sportsmarts as I prefer a bigger back tyre. Bike felt more planted and stable.

Does anyone else know what tyres are like this I Big tyres for their size on paper (Will probably go back to the sportsmarts though)

Default Re: Changing sprocket size SV650 (Tyre Question Also)

For the little help i can give i went to B&C express and just asked for their standard dropped gearing setup

It went from doing indicated 140 to likeeee 125ish...the acceleration improved but it really buzzes on the motorway now which can be a bit of an annoyance!

Other than that im on roadsmarts and i like them!

that will make acceleration slower you want to down gear the bike for acceleration and up gear the bike for top speed (longer in each gear)

you reduce the size of the front sprocket by 1 tooth will increase accell and decrease top speed 1 tooth down at the front is about 3 up at the rear sprocket

so for more top speed (pointless as the sv can barely rev out in top) an better cruising speed you ether want to go 1 tooth up on the front or 3 down on the back for a decent decrease in rev's for the given speed

for more pull/acell you really want to go up 3 teeth in the back as 1 down in the front increases chain ware, 3 up is a decent increase in accell and my bike toped out at about 126mph and was ok on the m-way if you dont use the motor way then you could go more extreme but, not the more teeth you add to the longer the chain will need to be to accommodate
