Default Jump starting bike from car?

Battery's flat

Seem to have misplaced my charger during the move, so I was wondering if there is any danger to jump starting the bike from the car?

I've been told not to have the car running when doing this. Not sure why, but the car battery should have enough juice to turn the bike over on it's own.

I have been told the same, I assumed it was due to higher current coming from the car than on the bike, but am fully prepared to admit I am on wrong on this.

We even jump started the GTR after it had sat for five years and the battery was ruined. Got that thing to move well enough.

Has my bike jump started from a ford galaxy couple of weeks back. The jump cable clips were a bit big so required 4 hands to hold clips press buttons etc. As far as I remember it was car off.

Works every time.

Never heard of hench, I thought they were mostly lead-acid?*

No need to have the car running, there have been reports of them damaging some old tech reg-recs if the cars (rather powerful) alternator is trying for 14.8V and the bike tried to regulate it down to 14.0V then smoke may result.

Unlikely and possibly unconfirmed but why risk it when you don't need it running anyway.

You can also earth the -ve to frame, turn the ignition on and contact the +ve direct to the starter motor cable to save fannying about taking the seat off. There needs to be a bit of life in it for this though to get the spark.

*(That's my nice way of saying don't talk like an orange c*nt.)
