Exclamation FILMING. Help needed!

Hello fellow Guildford corridor cabinet members and plebs. As you may or may not know, I develop games for a living. I am about to undertake a campaign to raise funding and part of that involves the creation of a promotional video.

The script/storyboard isn't finalised yet. I've been through about 3 iterations and none of them hit the spot, so I'm now working on a new approach ... a full on approach! What I have decided is that it's going to be light hearted, a bit stupid and full of interesting locations, props and people. I need help with all three.

In the game, you take on the role of a clone warrior, fighting to the death in an indoor arena game show style environment. It's an arcade gore romp with tongue in cheek commentator voice overs and crowd atmosphere. For the video, I'd like to film my interviews and promotional gibber jabber in locations that reflect the game feel, and I'd like a few assistants in the form of bit part actors, camera men, tea boys etc.

LOCATIONS
One or more of these locations would be required, so all suggestions welcomed:

- Derelict run down factory/warehouse buildings
- Any building that could be thought of as a small arena, internally or externally, with an industrial feel (i.e. not a nice shiny sports hall)
- Any building that has lighting or architecture that suggests a game show. It could be as simple as neon light which could suggest a game show hall or the front of cinema

ACTORS
I will be doing the majority of the spiel about the game, but I'd like to include very short clips of other characters for giggles. Mainly just a few seconds of movements, pose, or quick line for the following characters:

- A gameshow host, style flexible, for maybe a cheesy line or just to pose.
- One or more glamorous assistants to hang off the host's arm or perhaps pose in random places. The hotter the better, though beggars can't be choosers and all help gratefully received here!
- A few people to play combat fools and do foolish things like run around in combat gear, pretend to fight, act out ridiculous death scenes etc.
- A commentator "Randy McBane". He is an arena veteran. All his words are already recorded courtesy of our voice actor, so any dialogue will just be lip synching with ready made speech. We'll make this work by providing a microphone to hold right to your lips and hide any syncing blemishes.

PROPS AND COSTUMES
I'm very flexible here as this is essentially a zero budget movie! Costumes:

- Game show host outfit. Could be as crazy as a pink sparkly jacket, as simple as a suit, or more combat orientated
- Glamorous assistant outfits. If by a miracle we get someone super keen and 'well toned' skimpy outfits would be very credible, but just a bit of make up and t-shirt and jeans would be equally acceptable. Skimpy bikini girl or combat girl are both as credible
- Clone warrior outfits. So combats, gloves, army hats, masks, jackets that may look like flak jackets, bandanas, balaclavas, boots, face pace etc etc. anything that looks military/thuggish/combat orientated. Preferably not all camo because this isn't an army game, but beggars can't be choosers!
- Similar toned down look for randy the commentator, or just casual gear, possibly leather motorcycle jacket on top to make him Craig Charles Robot Wars style
- ANYTHING ELSE CRAZY - The game features a load of powerups (not fully designed yet), so split second shots of random fancy dress outfits could be amusing for a power-up listing section. Anything you've got that looks ridiculous!

Props:
Additionally a few props would be handy:
- Guns, preferably fake for safety! I have a realistic looking Colt BB gun, but if anyone has silly old toy M16s, rifles, shotguns etc they'd be great.
- Baseball bat
- Big old sledge hammer
- Sword (preferably fake!)
- Any other cool weapons. I'll take what I can get!
- I have a mic but if anyone has a commentator style looking condenser mic you press to your mouth, that'd be handy

EQUIPMENT
I have a few camcorders. I used to have a prosumer canon camcorder, but I got poor and had to sell it for drug money. However they're very basic to say the least, so if anyone has any posh filming technology I wouldn't say no to borrowing it!

Sound equipment is pretty basic. I have an iRiver which makes a good sound recording device and decent mini mic which should be good enough, but if anyone happens to be sitting on (not literally) any cool sound equipment that could be interesting to hear about.

TIME LINE AND PLAN
My approximate deadline is 3 weeks from today, which is pretty tight. I will modify the plan to keep to this deadline if it feels like it's not going to get done.

Basic plan is for me to come up with a new basic script today, write in any characters/costumes/props that people are willing to provide as and when they chime in, and then get it all filmed. Then use what we've got to create a final edit.

So yeah, my current project lives or dies by this fund raising venture. This will guarantee me 9 months of paid work if it succeeds, and leave me penniless until I come up with plan B if it fails. If nothing else it should be a laugh arsing about at random locations with cameras and stupid scripts.

Let me know if you're interested in helping and whether you'd be interested in acting (in the vaguest sense of the word!) a character or have props you could provide.

As you know I have an air rifle and a small sword,

I also have a balaclava and you're welcome to borrow my motorbike jacket although I have no wish to be in the film myself.

I've also got some random jackets that might be useful from various stag dos and stuff.

Happy to help anywhere behind the camera.

(Or non visible in front of the camera come to that)

I've just got new work boots, ill keep hold of my old ratty ones if you like, they've got no laces and you can see the toecap through them.

With regard to camo, I'd suggest a single camo item on each actor would be okay to get a mercenary style look, it's the full suit on one person that looks soldier.

Cool beans! Agree on the camo and those boots would be handy. Going to update first post with something else ...

I also have a slightly rusty wood axe,

A full length one, not a hatchet.

Who are you going to be then Gav? I think you'd make a good Randy McBane commentator. You have the right build look for an ex mentalist hatchet man!
