Weird request - I need to get high (up) - SV650.org

Morning all,
I'm trying to take a picture a week with my camera this year and one of the things I'd like to do is a high up city shot at dusk/dark. Does anyone have access to such a place in any cities around the north west? I'd even travel to London for a good shot and if there isn't a closer alternative.

The higher the better (I don't suppose any Orgers work on tower cranes?

), the more city central the better (unless it has some other feature it overlooks perhaps)

I've no firm plans of when so I'm open to any suggestion of dates.

Yeah I've browsed that, which is what makes me want to get some shots like that, but they are usually accessing without permission. I don't wanna get caught by some security guard with my whole camera kit etc.

How about the Shard? It's expensive but I've seen photos taken up there and they are pretty amazing. The Eye is good too.

Yeah I might have to resort to something like that, I was hoping for something that isn't so public, lots of people will have shots from those places. Didn't realise you could go up the Shard though, will look into it, thanks.

The other one that is fun is doing the Emirates Airline over the Thames. But you are moving all the time and only have about 8 minutes each way!

Worth asking a few buildings managers in your area who look after taller buildings if they would give you access at an agreed time in return for copies of the images that they could use non-commercially. I have given photography students access to our media centre on those terms.

Hah true, but this suffers the same problem as the emirates, I want to take long exposures and possibly HDR shots so I'd need a steady platform somewhere for a short while. I've wondered about sending a cheapish camera up on a balloon though.

I've not been up there since the new cage went in so am unsure how much it'd block the view, but if you're feeling fit and pack light there's monument
