This may be a dumb question but there is a very faint whining coming from my front wheel when riding(not under braking) I'm guessing this is the bearings, are there 2 sets of bearings per wheel like a push bike?

One in each side, but they are sealed units not cup and cone and loose stuff.

Get the front wheel off the ground and feel for side-to-side play.

When my front wheel bearings went there was a whine like you describe but no side to side play, when the wheel was turned though it felt 'gritty'.
They're pretty simple to change and not too expensive for good quality parts, I like SKF, probably from working around the rail industry and them using that brand. The bearing size for a K3 like in your avatar is 17x40x12... you need 2 sealed ones. Last edited by Stonesie; 20-03-13 at 09:05 PM. |

had same problem on mine at first. Then i got pulsing in brakes always though it was worped discs because that what MOT man.
But £22 (i think) for OME bearings and sorted all the issues out. Right side probably worse as that is the side more exposed when bike is left on its side for a while outside. |

I don't know if its just mine, but my speedo rotor made a loud whine even though the speedo was still working. Maybe check that if other things seem to be okay? Defo wheel bearing first call though

Hi Guys, Funnily enough I have a similar noise on my bike and was going to post the question today !
What sort of mileage would you expect a bearing to fail ? Also, where can I find the speedo rotor ? Cheers Gav |

just to add - mines a 2010 Pointy - not sure they have a front wheel driven speedo rotor, but happy to be corrected.
Also, the noise I am getting is a droan around 60-70mph that I can hear over the engine, and also a low grinding noise between 15-25mph Cheers Gav |
