£600!

Are you sure that it's valve clearances that are being discussed?

PS. What bike are we talking about?

To just check them is around 1.5 - 2 hours, cost will obviously vary slightly due to differences in labour rates. Adjustment would take about an hour on top plus shims.

They do tend to go tight on the SV mainly rear cylinder exhaust side. This then causes low compression, poor hot starting and running problems.

They are due to be checked at every 14,500 miles.

Your near Liverpool..id recommend near you Tony at Moto Corse in Wrexham or Jenny Tinmouths workshop www.twowheelworkshop.com in ellesmere port.

Checking is fairly easy. Lift tank, remove rear cam cover and insert feeler gauge. Front is slightly trickier, remove lower rad screw and push rad forward, remove cam cover, insert gauge. Easy 1.5 hours.

If clearances are wrong, then cams have to be removed, as the shims are under the valve followers. All much trickier and time consuming as cam chains and tensioner all have to be put back correctly to avoid messing up timing. So this would take fours hours I think.

sent via carrier pigeon.

Yes..but we have done lots and lots of them, its not hard and certainly not 4 hours worth of work for a full trained technician. ..the race bikes get checked every 3rd meeting!

There's your problem.

Was it Marriott's or Millenium? Plenty of places local to you that will be cheaper. Orrell Park Motorcycles for one. Think some other mechs in Liverpool have been mentioned in the Border Patrol section. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...52#post2912652
