Default Oil covered rear wheel

While cleaning my rear wheel rim this morning i noticed that i had somehow compleltly covered the tyre in degreaser. Now i thought thats not bad, its de greaser, not grease. but its got that rainbow look to it and feels quite bad...
what should i do?

i was thinking maybe wash it with fairy liquid or something?

I just use petrol on a cloth, personally.
Takes a while, and you don't want to go sloshing it about everywhere, but it certainly works.

If you're just cleaning the tyre than a washing-up liquid solution is fine, just be aware that it has a high salt content and shouldn't be used for cleaning the bike in general - a car shampoo is perfect though.

roger that. thanks for the tips.

btw, i was wondering if there was anything wrong with the way i clean my bike. i clean the chain, lube it, go for a quick 10 min blast so the lube flings off first, then clean it. i try not to touch the chain too much though so i dont take the lube off.

is there a better order i could do this?

take your bike out for about half an hour - lube the chain (when its hot)

do this the evening before.

take for a quick spin in the morning (to let the lube fling)

then clean all the bike.

as for the degreaser. lots of water should get it off.

hey hey hey, dont want a scotoiler!

keeping those rims clean is hard enough lubing once a week, let alone constantly!

So this is why no matter how well I clean all the road crap off my bike, it's corroding in front of my eyes

'Fraid so Ape, the stuff really isn't very kind to your bike. Any cheapo car-shampoo will do.
