Default Warranty claim for corrosion?

My bike`s 9 months old now, I`ve done 2400miles on her. I use it mainly in the dry but all wethers really. After winter use I rinse the bike down.

Unfortunately my 9 month old bike now looks older than my Race bike. Having only had Hondas before the SV I`ve never experienced this problem.

The top yoke nut is corroded, the brake calipers have pitting on them, the hose fittings (brake and oil) are corroding. Most of the hose brackets (under engine and on swingarm) are rusting.

The oil cooler guard is covered in rust too!

Should the warranty cover any of this? The bike`s immaculate mostly as it`s kept really clean, you can see I`ve looked after it. It`s stored in my garage with two other bikes.

I reckon you have a claim, however it depends on the dealer...it shouldnt but it does,
if u have no luck with your dealer call suzuki, they will be pleased to hear if one of the dealers isnt being helpfull!

Hope all goes well

Its not down to the dealer to honour the warranty its upto Suzuki to honour it. The dealer will put forwards a claim to suzuki and then suzuki will decide whether it is to be honoured or not. They have the final say.

Paint and finishings arent covered but suzuki can grant the claim under goodwill.

Worth a try.

Oh btw my CBR600 had to have a new swingarm under warranty at only 2k due to corrosion!!

Nope the dealer fills in the form after its been authorised by suzuki in cases like this.

Dealer calls suzuki - informs them of corrosion problem, suzuki then either authorise the work then and there or explain they want to inspect the bike.

Parts are then ordered if authorisation has been given, work completed and then claim form completed online.

sorry i do this most days!

Your actual claim is with the dealer, a simple matter of "goods not fit for the purpose" under the Sale of Goods Act. You might well need to instruct a solicitor as the dealer will try like hell to wriggle out of it.

The Suzuki warranty? This is simply a guarantee that the dealer can call upon should they want to and is a decision between them and Suzuki. It is extra to your consumer rights, and there is no contract with Suzuki at all, just with the dealer.

Naturally Suzuki don't want a bad name and might well decide to step in and sort you out if they feel inclined to do so, just don't count on it. The corrosion factor is unfortunately a pretty standard thing with SVs as they're basically a budget bike, using cheaper components. Though they shouldn't be too bad don't expect Honda-like standards.

Good luck .
