I've found that Alarms don't lower your premium any more than say 'Datatag' or 'Alphadot' etc would...

IMHO The best advice is too get as much security that will help you sleep at night- (in your bed, not next to the bike )

get some kind of tagging

make sure you are insured

When you can attach the bike to something solid, especially if you go to the same place regularly, or are leaving it for a long time

I have never had any problems with my Meta 357. Beyond the remote LED legs corroding away and costing all of about 12 pence for a new LED.

I do live in fear of it failing as I have no idea how the hell to rip it out. and keep reminding myself to encapsulate the manual disarm instructions to leave under the seat just incase the keyfob ever fails. thats why I needed to fix the LED

IMHO.....(and this is not BASAT, plc, e&oe, BhS etc etc)

Meta = much better than most systems.

But:

The number of SV650s hot-wired before stealing = probably none.
The number of SV650s on which an alarm has prevented vandalism = probably low.
The number of SV650s stolen by lobbing them in the back of a van = certainly (comparatively) high.

Ergo, if worried about theft and vandalism, keep bike tucked away and chained/bolted to something solid. Arguably, SV650s are not major targets of choice for thieves - they'll be primarily opportunistic thefts, and that means that you don't need the expense of employing the SAS to guard them....

Meta probably as good as any other (I've got one). It probably has a payback of about 7 years , but if you are in the position of trying everything to get your insurance down it might be worth it. TBH the thing that makes the most difference is getting a good solid ground anchor and big hard chain in the garage at home.

Just as a point of interest, I've found that most alarms on SV's can be 'turned off' by just taking the multi-plug off the top of the starter relay (don't think I'm giving any secret away here), so a standard allan key and a couple of minutes will see a very silent alarm. It's still imobilised, but you can put it in a van without atracting any attention that way!
