Right, looks like a front disc on my ZX-6R may be a tad bent/wobbly... the bike shakes like hell when braking at high speeds, and there is an ever so little pulsing from the brake lever....
Im taking a guess its the discs, but I have been told it could also be the baring for the steering... its a tad loose anyway.. but I always hope for the best.. and prepare for the worst ![]() Sadly new discs for the front are in the £250 + area..... but if the old ones can be put back flat/straight.. then at least there may be some hope! |

I wouldn't have thought so, especially given the forces and temperatures they have to endure!

My 6r did a set of head races and a front wheel bearing so check that too.
Ar'nt the discs semi floating?Mine used to make a whirring noise when braking from speed caused by the discs moving on their mountings.Check the mountings are not seized.

Im pretty sure they are semi-floating.. but I have no idea what that is!!!
![]() no problems with the noise.. just the fact that it shakes... no problems below 30mph, at anything higher it starts to shake, but the pulsing in the brake leaver is hardly noticable, and its only when I use 1 finger I can feel it do that... will probably know in a few weeks time anyway.. only another 500 miles to its major service ![]() |

Discs can be straightened but it requires the right tools to do it. Cost depends on who does it but I get them done for £30 a pair which is a hell of a lot better than buying new.
Whether a particular disk can be straightened or not depends on it the metal has stretched, normally it is possible. I have had 4 pairs done and only one disc out of 8 could not be done, this had been badly trashed. You can send them to Hagon (the shock absorber people) and they can do them or find a M/C frame engineer near you. I use a guy near Aldershot. |

Well, I had a quick read up on the different types of discs you can have..
found out that semi-floating discs can occasionaly stop being semi-floating in a bad position.. so squirted some contact cleaner around the rivets.. and it seems to be better... though will need to do longer testing tomorrow ![]() Wanted to take the front wheel off the bike, and give everything a good clean.. but my part hasnt arrived to fit the axle yet ![]() So looks like Biker Biggles had a good point ![]() cheers for the help! |

Yes.
