Default Another strange question...bike won't reverse

Sorry about the recent level of stupid questions. Im just not very clued up on SV problems yet...

...tried to reverse the bike out the drive this morning (walk it backwards) and the bugger was SOOOOOOOOO hard to move it wasnt true. It wasnt in gear. What can this be and is it common? The bike seems to ride just fine and even when i got off it to push i had a hard time.

Have you checked your tyre pressures?

Are you positioning yourself correctly as against the bike?

Brakes binding a bit?

Driveway uphill?

The bike is heavier than you'd think. Suggest get a mate to have a go at pushing it, see what s/he thinks.

There's often a bit of clutch drag when it's in neutral which makes it difficult, possibly (as Ed suggests) your pads might be binding very slightly too.

This is pretty common.

my brakes bind something terrible makes it a bu@@er to move. Find it easier going backwards as you can use body weight.

I vote for brakes binding.Check em and cleann the pistons.
Also,as the pads wear down they can become a bit uneven such that they bind a bit but only when reversing.

Ditto brakes binding. Mine have been too with my usage patterns - weekend rides only, hose down and put away. Next weekend, one of the front calipers is binding, so long term clearly needs stripping and fettling. A pre-ride session alternating with application of the rubber mallet and applying the front brake sorts it out (until the next week).
