Hi,
My front brakes feel very spongy at the moment, can anyone advise a novice mechanic how to go about bleeding the front brakes? Cheers |

Lots of information on that if you do a search.

OK I've done a search, one thing I've found which sounds so easy there must be a catch, just pull the break leaver in all the way, tie it up with a cable tie or something similar and leave it over night.
Then in the morning the breaks have bled themselves? This sounds way to easy, is this method correct or am I missing something? |

That technique sometimes helps to bring any air bubbles in the system up to the reservoir but it didn't work for me.
To bleed them you need to flush the old fluid out of the system with new fluid. The technique(s) will be on here if you search. |

My method is to connect a big syringe full of brake fluid to the bleed nipple and pump the fluid in that way. It's easyer to push air up hill and out through the reservoir than the other way around. A bit of PTFE tape around the nipple will stop it leaking during this operation.

Yup, it works. But it has potential for ****ing Up Like You Wouldn't Believe, a guy on Visordown managed to spray fluid into his own eyes, for instance, and oanother one managed to overfill the reservoir. But it's a tried and tested method, if you're not a numpty.

![]() It does work, get as big a syringe as possible so that you can do it in one operation without taking it off to refill. And keep a (shielded) eye on the reservoir. ![]() |
