Hi,
Please could someone give me some advice (i'm kinda woried I might have damaged something). Today my bike got a bit dirty, so I decided to clean her. I went to a petrol station and used the jet wash. Drove out of there and everything was fine, after 100 meters or so she started acting really weird. rev's were flying up and down and she stalled as i tried to overtake a bus, I restarted her and got by but the bike felt really strange (rev's bouncing up and down) so I pulled her to the side and turned her off. Wondering if i had got water in the exhaust I decided to stick some choke on and rev her hard (to try and flush some water out) unfortunately I didn't see any. I waited a few minutes and then tried this again, I kept doing this for a while until i saw something that looked like smoke (but it could've been steam) coming from around the radiator area. Looking around the area i saw something that looks like a fan, this wasn't blowing with the bike running or not. After a while of revving her and turning her off and on she seemed to be running a lot better so i decided to nurse her home (only a mile). She's now back home and sounds ok, and from a minute of revving her i saw no smoke. However I am worried that I have damaged her. Any advice / explinations would be greatfully recieved. Steve |

WATER ON FRONT SPARK PLUG! havent been on the forum for a while but thats what i guess it is, same happens after really big down pour and you over compensate no front cylinder with more throttle and as soon as it kicks back in it jumps up to loadsa revs and you jump from 70 to 120 in no time!

That was my guess, but I was worried about the fan not going round?

I never jet wash a bike, apart from electrical problems. You can wash the grease out of th bearings and couse all sorts of grief.
When I were a sprog we cleaned bike with toothbrush. You tell young folk that today and they won't believe you! |

Trust me, from this day forth no jet washing will ever be done. Any other opinions apart from the spark plug? (would it stall if the plug was wet enough?)

You need to run the bike and let it get fully warmed up.The fan only comes on when the temperature exceeds about 100 so that's rarely other than idling in traffic.Having got it hot take it for a good ride if the weather's dry and get rid of all the water you fired into it earlier.Sounds like it needs drying out like an overindulgent alcoholic.

It will and trust me when I say fender extender. One of the main problems people get with the SV is water ingress to the front cylider spark plug tunnel.
We've got loadsa pages dedicated to it ![]() |
