Question 2 new mods today a question

Got Hagon fork springs & 10 w oil fitted , first impressions very pleased .

Got Scotoiler universal kit fitted , a quick question reservior is fitted under pillion seat , works fine , however to get flow rate of 1 -2 drops per minute having to use setting 8 on dial , would have thought that this weather would have only needed 1 - 2 ?
What is the max setting is it 9 ?

Also do I need to clean chain to remove chain lube off or I would guess the scotoiler should wash it off ?

Local dealer charged me 60 quid for fitting fork springs & scot oiler which I thought was very fair price . also quoted 160 for valve clearance service its due.

Cheers Steve

IIRC on the Scotoiler, the numbers don't refer to drops per minute.

Unless your chain is really manky, then personally I wouldnt bother cleaning it, set the scotoiler to an appropriate flow rate and then keep an eye on it for a few days.

I've found on heavy winter days, or days when its rained hard, that a squirt of chain lube is still required even with the scotoiler.

I tend to set mine so that it flings on the back wheel a little bit and then turn it down a fraction. The only way really though is to check that the chain is getting enough lube by looking at it on a regular basis.

Max setting is 9, but there is one further setting after this which is prime. But you shouldnt need to use this unless you've run the oiler right out of oil.

Fizz is right. Each person could have it set on a different number to achieve the same flow rate. It all depends on where the reservoir has been placed, at what angle, how much hose has been used and how it's been routed. But with yours having to be set on such a high number would suggest a problem. Have you checked the route of the flow pipe? Maybe there is a kink in it somewhere.

have checked flow pipe , no kinks ...

Will see how it goes , for this weather is fine , my concern is when its wet / winter does not leave me with much adjustment left .

Cheers Steve

Sorry if this duplicates what others have already covered, but what sort of flow rate do you get with it set to "prime"? It should drip out pretty quickly IIRC.

Maybe a silly question - are you using proper scottoiler oil? - it's quite thin so if you're using something like 10W-40 engine oil you'll need a higher setting to get the same flow as the scottoiler oil.
