+1 to oil (mine used 0.5l in 3k5 miles), good kit, and a separate rain suit.
EDIT
Speaking of rain, make sure your SV doesn't suffer from the water in front plug problem.

That's the joker. Very handy and it's so tiny that there is never any excuse for not carrying one. And it can be fitted with the bike's standard toolkit, so no need for and additional tools to fit it!

Yep as Luckypants said I didn`t have any mechanical problems at all with my bike. Obviously needed oil and he did check oil and trye pressures etc. every morning so would be wise to do the same yourself.

my black SV was used for touring France last year. I was lucky enough to have bought it 'higher geared'(sprockets different) it was absolutely perfect for mile munching on peages, and seemed to have a certain cruise control....lol.
Just come back from the AR up the mways, and on the other SV 6th gear and thats it, the black one ones to go one more..lol

But as others have said, the SV doesn't have a problem touring, oh and get yourslef a gel seat, your ass can cope then!!!;-)

Yeah mine's downgeared, must have tried to shift into 7th gear about 5 times an hour on the way to and from the AR!

Me and Jax went to the South of France on ours, easy. Even keeping pace with the RSV and BMW, which when we hit the mountain roads lost easy. We even got to the point of doing a 5 mile journey down the mountain to get croissants every day cus it was so much fun.

If you don't have a Scotoiler you might want to bring some chain loob to.

cheers for all that guys. I have a scottoiler which I think saves a hell of a lot. I only have a few days off in a few weeks time so when I come back from the holls with the girlfriend:rolleyes:,
Im going to try to convince her to let me away on me own for a few days to try the SV for a wee tour!:smt075
