Yeah I've done this with know aero back pack, and tested it up to 115mph (on a private road, in another country...) and in a heavy rain storm (not at the same time).

yeah thought about the tailpack but being a short@rse i think panniers is the better option

I was wondering myself, perhaps due to getting a leg over the top. If that's the case then it doesn't matter, fully loaded even I can't get my leg over the top of the luggage.
