They are great, the Harris ones, but they're only £20 less than an ABBA. Great for racers who ant a quick, solid stand though. But you can't, for example, remove the shock or swingarm (ABBA needs an adaptor for swingarm, but can do it). Even with the best swingarm stand, your options are pretty limited, and you're less stable as it's not bolted into the bike.

I've got a Micron rear stand with the rubber cup thingys, works OK for me for lubing the chain (anything more complicated is beyond me).

There is a knack to getting it on the stand on your own though.

I am glad I posted and didn't just go out any buy one. The Abba does sound the best option. I will look for the posts about discounts. (Hmm? Fathers Day in June, can the chain last that long without a loob!)

Thanks everybody.

For an ordinary rear one the Harris one is top, veyr solid, looks the biz, and unlike the Micron has hooks that you fix in position, so you can get the bike up on your own. Downside of any rear is if you want the swingarm/shock out but depends how often you'll be doing that job.

I got given one of these for nowt. It works OK but as Liz pointed out to me at the weekend its a bit wobbly. Its OK for lubing the chain etc though.

I've got a weird square tubing HG one that goes on to the swing arm, as for the knack of getting it up, I use a plastic Jupiler (belgian beer) crate lodged under the right hand side of the engine (looking to the front of the bike). Then bring the bike off the side stand to rest a couple of mm on the plastic crate, wander round to the back and hold the pillion grab rail with one hand as wrestle/wiggle with the stand.

Always feels a bit dodgy, like it could go over at any time!! so may be the advice is not to get a weird square tubing paddock stand from HG.

I got a seat cowl on my bike and removed the grab rail at the back. I could never get the bike up on my paddock stand, so ended up buying an Abba at Ally Pally. I get it up easily now  .

I have a similar set up, well, its probably exactly the same set up, just brought from different places. They work well and allow you to do weheel cleaning remoing the wheels for tyres etc if needs be, and chain cleaning. They wont however, allow the removal of the suspension, but i have only ever done that once.
