Philips Extreme and Osram Nightbreakers are both brilliantly bright and I wouldn't choose one over the other, buy whichever your nearest shop sells/is cheaper. HID is of course excellent, but if you just want a straight swap then either of the above won't be bettered.

Not a normal lamp.
Puts a high voltage through a tube of xenon gas, you need a kit for that, it is a small box about the size of 20 fags with a high-voltage cable that you lead to the lamp.

More complicated to fit but hugely efficient and bright.

They do, and it remarkably looks like £28 for two over £18 for two, with presumably no difference other than the packaging.
