Re: First Pillion Ride!!

I would agree with everything said, I ride with pillion more than on my own these days, only been out on my own once this year :( keep calm, and smooth, tapping signals are good to use, but tell them first what they are!

and if you are lucky like i am, after a couple of rides your mrs will get to the point of being so confident on teh back you hardly realise she is there, i can ride almost as if i am on my own with just as much confidence as if i actually was on my own, and she loves it!

Re: First Pillion Ride!!

-work out a code of taps for faster/slow/STOP I'M WET (for whatever reason ;) )
-NO SQUIRMING WHILE WE'RE MOVING
-look over my shoulder into the corners, that's it, don't try to kneedown
-get used to holding onto the grabrails while we're in town, but you can hold onto me on the faster roads
-don't put your feet down, ever
-pay attention to where we're going so changes in speed don't take you by surprise

Re: First Pillion Ride!!

Took the lady for her first pillion ride yesterday and my first passenger. Definitely need a non slip cover! constantly slipping forwards and backwards even on 'gentle' braking or accelerating. However it was reasonably fun, but it's alooooot better being on your own.
I went very slowly at first and just got used to it and let her calm down a bit. Ended up going quicker towards the end and took some corners at reasonable speed and it got a bit more fun.
The back end had alot fewer bumps coming through it. It was lovely! She only weighs about 8 stone but it made a huge difference. Makes me want to put on weight.
I also noticed how bad my gear changes were... *accelerate* *change gear* *CLONK* go our helmets :D. Was amusing and I really had to concentrate to make it less jolty. I guess whilst you're holding the bars and knowing when you'll do it you just don't notice.

I only got hit once :)

Good stuff... it seems as if you both enjoyed the ride...

Mrs Chucca is often too relaxed when we're on the bike, she gets to the stage that she's almost asleep, SO I GOTTA GO quicker to keep her awake :)
