Re: New chain & sprockets - new whining noise?
I do not mean by ridiculous amounts but it is better to have a chain slightly loose than slightly over tight. My bike chain only runs quiet at the top end of adjustment.
Have you given the chain a good soaking in oil?----not just a spray, as not all new chains are properly lubed. |

I'd go with the chain being too tight as well. Diane adjusted her new chain and it howled like a banshee as she drove off for work. Slackened it off a few flats on the adjusters and the noise was almost gone. It won't take you long to try it out.

Re: New chain & sprockets - new whining noise?
The chain's done nearly a 1000 miles now and the whine reduced over time to barely noticeable. I then adjusted the tension to about 20mm and the whine came right back. So backed it off to just under 30mm (about 1/3 turn on the adjusters) and the whine's reduced.
I guess some chains whine and I also guess that better have the chain too slack than too tight. |
