The bikes battery is 12v, so that would be fine. I'm not sure on the markings on the relay (haven't had mine out).

Connect battery +ve & -ve to pin 85 & 86 respectively. Between 30 & 87a you should see a continuous connection (diode test or resistance check on a DMM) only when the battery is connected. 30 & 87 should only have a connection when the battery is NOT connected. The starter relay might not have all these pins, and might not be labeled like this.

Google "bosch relay diagram" for a picture of what I'm talking about. I suspect the SV starter relay would only have pins 85,86,30 & 87a (so it'd be a SPST - Single Pole Single Throw - relay).

Wiring one up the wrong way around won't fry it, you just won't get the expected results.

I think that this is beyond me. The relay checked out. It is one clicking *******. So my options are running out, and to make the whole thing just a bit more confusing I tried to start the bike by bridging the relay and it just wouldn't start. I think my battery was starting to run low I was turning it over for so long.
But thinks for all your help hovi5, svDaveC, petevtwin650, Baph and oldjack (in order of appearance)
Anymore suggestions would be great but I depend souly on this sv for work and what not so I will be bringing it to a mechanic for this one, But I am not afraid to try something that you might think of.

does the SV not have a bank angle sensor ?

I guess I am not on the ball with my sensors I don't know about that one. Or where it is located or what it does.

Tip Switch/sensor

Does the 99 model have a tip sensor? I've got a 3 year old pointy and managed to drop it last year, when I picked it up the ignition button would not work, I phoned the garage and they told me to take the tip sensor out (located under the seat attached to the front battery box) and give it a shake as they get stuck.

it acts like a kill switch, cutting the ignition if/when the bike is layed on its side.
when it has been tripped, it needs to be reset.

but thats on my honda, not sure if the SV has one.

The SV's don't have a tilt sensor on them.

If the starter relay is clicking, how fast is it clicking? Refer to the previous pictures provided by others for diagnosis there :)

I suspect your starter might of gone the way of the dodo after all of this, but that's only a guess at the moment.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Wondering if Oldjack was on to something with his loose/corroded connection. Also maybe the battery suffered in the fall too?
