Any more than £2500 and it will fail your w/o test so you won't be able to make a profit.
Real world, I would value Cat D at no more than £200 - £300 difference between a repaired bike and a non crashed one

if it was repaired back to original (or better - like standard can for road legal)

I would bite their hand off at £900 profit and live with scratches or repair them for another £100-£200.

yep, i had this problem awhen i as rear ended. eike passed my details onto a hire company. Be sure this is gonna be 100% their fault otherwise they will try and charge you but they were ok for me. i had to justify why i needed the hire bike but as i can't drive/ don't have a car it was a no brainer- watch the excess on the hire bike though- mine was £500 :shock:

by law all he has to do is give his details. questions about liability and so forth dont have to be answered. (infact most insurance companies get VERY tetchy about there customer admitting liability)

if you can get the value up and keep it cat D then bonus! Keep thinkin if this happened to me it'd be a nice little earner! :roll: :lol: not that i want to be knocked off again...have the stress, pain, etc....

repair it, dont worry about the cosmetics. Just make it safe. you can then sell it if you simply must have a pristine machine, and go shoppin for another bike. either way you should make a profit!

Agreed. I've no need of a show bike, the scratches will make a talking point, and I don't have to get stressed over bungee burns or tank scratches any more! :)

Last week repairers would not release "salvage" bike until paid, insurers denied receiving invoice. I phoned them twice a day for 7 days, eventually I got elevated to "complaint" status and got to talk to someone who has a clue, they phoned repairers and reminded them that they are "approved" and can release before payment, repairer released immediately. WTF?? :evil:

I'd already bought the parts I needed (£100 and 2 day delivery from nice people at suzuki-spares.co.uk) and it took me 3 hours of wrench work to fit. Scratches aren't as bad as I remembered, its a joke that the bike was written off for that. I'll have to bring it in to Soho some time and share the joke.... :roll:

I need to find out what happens if you don't use the approved repairer. If this ever happens again I'd rather sort the bike out myself, not sure I can do that and still claim off other party....

What I found after mt GPz was written off is they will cost the replacment of everything that has a scratch on it with new parts, they costed up the wheels as they had scratches on them etc. They paid out £2700 on my GPz at the time, I got knocked of and the bike went over but only hit the floor at 6mph according to the accident investigator, no way I did around £2500 worth of damage.
