Default Knocked off...

Hit by a car last night, the muppet enterred the roundabout in the left lane, me behind him in the right. He decided he didn't want to go left after all so indicated and swept round outside of roundabout towards the next (last) exit. There are 2 lanes off roundabout on this exit so I figure he will stay on the outside and take exit he is heading towards, me being on the inside will take the right lane on same exit. But no, he's decided he needs to go home (quote from him after, "I forgot something!") and is doing a U-turn right round the outside of the roundabout, he's not looking inside either, so he keeps coming across my right of way and the front of his car hits my bike just on left footpeg (which bends badly). I go flying, bike bounces off car and lands on exhaust side, breaking rear break lever. Luckily I wear all my gear despite the 30 degree weather so I am allright, I land on my shoulder and the pads take the shock. My shoulder is in pain today but just sprained, not worth bothering doctors or insurers about. And despite the bad press they get my OE bungs did the job ok too, no other visible damage bar a few scratches. Not rideable mind.

ebike insurance been good so far, I phoned them up from the scene, they took all details. You don't need other party's insurance details (he didn't have them), DVLA has that, and they check the postcode he gives is real, so thats good. They also ask you the same questions they did when you bought the policy, date of birth, profession, that stuff, which is not what you want when you are in shock but there you go. I was a wee bit flustered and forgot to take photos before we lifted the bike, but he was in the wrong lane then drove across the flow of traffic and most importantly hit me from behind so as far as I am concerned it was 100% his fault. ebike also sorted out the recovery people who came within the hour, and they've been helpful on the phone too.

Few things I've learned:
1. His fault, but I shouldn't have been there. Annoyed with myself that I didn't assume he'd do a really stupid move, I should have assumed the worst.
2. I've got a card in my wallet with insurance details on, that was essential. Will make a new one with a little checklist reminding me to take pictures, record *all* details, etc. When in shock a list is a good idea.
3. Falling off at 20mph hurts a fair amount even in good gear.

Things I could use some advice on
* ebike say repairs quicker if I use their repairer so bike has gone to Tigwell Williams in Slough. Anyone got experience of these, do I need to hound them with daily calls to make sure they do the right things and quick?
* A crowd called Drive Assist called me to say they could arrange an alternative bike. Sounds a bit dodgy to me, they are nothing to do with ebike, they claim against the man who hit me seperately. Their website says nothing about who pays for this service if they fail to claim against the other guy, don't think I will go for this. Anyone used them?
* ebike sent their renewal request to me 2 days ago, I suppose I can go renew my insurance at that price (a very good one!) while all this claims stuff is going on....

Sorry for the long post.

Lots of similarities with my off. That card idea is great. Well done for wearing the gear.

Hope you get back on the road soon!

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like you have a good case tho so good luck when the time comes.

Ebike were great the other week when I broke down. Just rang the tel. no. on the keyfob they gave me, quoted my name/address/location and where I wanted the bike sent to. Just a shame the driver from the garage that responded was a bit duff.

Glad your (relativley) Ok.
Well done on wearing all your gear it has been jolly sweaty this week.

I think the heat might have affected peoples eyesight (or make motorcycles invisible) of late.
I've had a lorry and a bird in Range Rover try to kill me today, thankfully my spider sense has been pretty sharp today and I've got out of the way in time.

Hope you get your bike sorted and feel better soon quickly.

Bugger, glad your ok ish.

I have had people do that to me before now, luckily I narrowly avoided them. What people seem to do on roundabouts really is beyond believe, the misses was cut up by a police car of all people that decided to go right from the left hand lane of a three lane approach without indicating.

Hope you get it sorted.
Roundabouts are really dodgy, apart from the diesel and the potholes, half the people on them don't have a clue how to use them.
